Overview

Organic Reach is a measure of how many people saw your post on social media without the help of advertising.

What is Organic Reach?

Organic Reach is a measure of how many people saw your post on social media without the help of advertising, which is freely available to all users. Organic Reach acts as a key indicator of overall exposure generated through your content on social media. It is also one of the few metrics that can accurately capture the true reach of your posts, as only those users who have been exposed to it are counted. This is in contrast to metrics which measure impressions, such as Paid Impressions, which are an estimate of the number of people who could potentially have seen the post.

Formula

Organic Reach = (Number of Organic Impressions / Total Audience) x 100

Example

  • Let’s say you have an online store selling handmade jewelry. In a given month, your social media posts and content were seen by 10,000 people (Total Audience), and among those, 2,000 people saw your posts without any paid promotion (Organic Impressions).
  • Using the formula:
  • Organic Reach = (2,000 / 10,000) x 100 = 20%

Why is Organic Reach important?

Organic Reach is one of the fundamental metrics in social media, as it indicates how much exposure a post has achieved organically. This is important because it helps you understand the efficacy of your content in terms of reach and engagement. Knowing the amount of organic reach achieved can also help you refine targeting tactics and inform your budgeting decisions.

Which factors impact Organic Reach?

Organic Reach can be improved by constantly creating and sharing high-quality, engaging content that resonates with your target audience. Additionally, it’s important to optimize your posts by using relevant hashtags and keywords as well as focus on posting content when your target audience is active in order to maximize the reach of your content.

How can Organic Reach be improved?

Several factors can impact organic reach, such as competition in the news feed, the type of content, audience engagement, demographics as well as post frequency and timeliness.

What is Organic Reach’s relationship with other metrics?

Organic Reach is closely related to other key ecommerce metrics such as impressions, clicks, and conversions. The higher the reach, the higher the impressions, clicks and conversions. Organic Reach is also correlated with engagement metrics like comments, shares, likes and views. As with other metrics, improving organic reach will lead to an overall improvement in all other ecommerce metrics.
